Best small wireless network?

Ok - so if I get a laptop - what kit is best for connecting it wirelessly to my Win2000 Pro box which is on ADSL?

I did the very same last week....

I'm using 2 54G belkin pcmcia cards and an access point...total cost 198ukp

Try the buffalo or netgear stuff. Sorry to say avoid Belkin

just under an hour D-Link Kit is superb go for the 54Mbs stuff, we have just installed this as a bridge between the house and my office

I agree with steve re: belkin, great cables crap networking products

Hi guys,
on a similar vein, tomorrow I am buying a laptop with wireless LAN. I already have a PC with wireless LAN capability using an ADSL modem for broadband. What do I need to get the internet connection to the laptop. I am a bit confused with routers and access points etc.

Ideally An Wireless ADSL Router that you can plug your ADSL modem into and then connect to with the PC and the Laptop

I personally like the Linksys gear. Especially as the company is owned by Cisco but at budget prices.

buy a laptop with centrino - flick a switch and go... make sure you get one that supports 802.11g though.

i have a sony and its fab... Vaio Z1XSP with a LinkSys WAG54G adsl wireless router - which also supports VPN's if you want to do remote corporate stuff.

I see the BT shop are doing a voyager wirelsess modem for £112, would this be a simpler route to take, or not?

I'll second Linksys kit.

I got my Linksys wireless router for 50GBP from Amazon (only 11Mbs though), and it works very well. Very easy to install too. I have cable, so not sure how much the ADSL routers are, as I believe they have the modem built in.

...or an all in 1 wireless router, ethernet hub and adsl modem, like the 9106 by US Robotics. (ETA: about 115 quid)

I've just installed one (replacing my usb adsl modem) and wired my desktop to it and uise the laptop wireless. And it all magically works...

Main benefit is that there doesn't need to be a "modem host" pc, as I didn't want to have to leave one on all the time.
