I have an aux in the Audi so the iphone is fine in there. However, the TVR has no aux so I need to get a charger/transmitter for Le Mans trips, etc. driving

Unlike the ipod, there doesn't appear to be a 'cheap' version that will fulfill my needs.

The Griffin type offered in the Apple Store (and other outlets) is £50 yikes which is too much IMO.

Are there any other known devices that will work well but not cost that sort of money.

Help please ! biggrin

What radio is in the TVR?

Some regular head units you can plug a cable into the Multi-Changer input in the back of the radio. Functionality isn't great - your 1000s of songs have to turn into 6 CDs, but simply for LeMans and a couple of playlists that you could create yourself might be enough!

Incidentally, where do you stay at LM? Be good to introduce myself smile

Hi Hethers - the stereo in the Griff is crap. It's old, doesn't even play CD's anymore and the background lighting doesn't work. I rarely use it as the V8 is all the tunes I need! wink

In all honesty, it needs replacing which I may end up doing anyway. Come to think of it, probably better just getting a new one with an aux socket. scratchchin

I'm on Houx again this year. Would be good to see you. I'll email you my number so you can give us a call if you're strolling through at any point.

There are plenty of radios (for literally £50) out there with Aux In sockets, or SD card or USB stick sockets, so might be worth going that route!

Don't be tempted to get the radio transmitter thing from phone > radio smile

Yep cool about LM

I know, I know. I just have one at the moment 'griffin' which works really well with the ipod.

Think I'll just buy an incar charger and a new stereo.

I done this in a work car, charger to the iPhone and Aux to the headunit (Built in..)

All I got was alternator whine, so took it off charge and it was fine.

So try and get a headunit that works with iPhones/iPods as it'll charge and play your music on the one wire smile

As daft as this sounds. I needed a car charger for my iphone, and got a cheap £3 job to tide me over on a car journey from ebay. It was also an FM transmitter. I know they are normally awful, but this one isn't too bad as long as it is in a certain place in the car. Nice and small too, Only one wire with a box about the size of a match box which connects to the charge point on the phone.

Sounds similar to one I bought (then sent back) from amazon. UBopp or some ste like that I think it was?

I need something substantial that I won't need to replace in a hurry.

No problem, Just a thought.

You'd probably be best with a new stereo with an Aux then smile

No problem, I have this headunit.

And the wire plugs into the back of the headunit and into the charging socket of the iPhone, so charges it and plays music through it too, easiest way really smile

Oh no, the USB is plugged in the back of the headunit, and the wire is about 1m so I've got that through a little hole in the slot under the headunit and just plug the iPhone into that each time, so the USB stays plugged in smile

Have a sony XPLOD in my Defender which allows BT streaming from iphone. No wires needed. Iphone sits in a brodit cradle which charges it. Can use copilot and ipod at same time all through the headunit.

I've got a Clarion head unit that does the same - streams music via bluetooth and doubles as a hands-free kit too.

I have a Alpine 104BTi, connects to my iPhone via a single cable for charging and music, also has a built in bluetooth module for hands free.
