Looking at changing my broadband provider from PlusNet to Sky, along with my phone so i have a single cheaper bill (i have SkyHD also)

How do i go about changing my broadband?
Im moving house on the 30th so can i cancel Plusnet and ask Sky to take control of both my phone and internet for the 30th??

Thanks

phone plusnet and say you're leaving and ask for the MAC transfer code
Sky will need this to become your new ISP

Plusnet will probably try and keep you by persuading you with a 'really good deal'
and when you refuse, they'll take their time in providing you with the code
the longer they keep you, the longer you pay !

plusnet might even charge you for the code - or class it as a disconnection fee
but IIRC, OFCOM declared this as illegal

just googled this : http://www.maccode.org.uk/switch-broadband/guide-t...

The MAC Transfer Code is related to the ADSL line to the house in question. As the OP is moving house, there won't be a need to release the MAC, just sign up at the new property smile

Isn't Sky broadband capped to 2mb download speed?

Something to bear in mind if you are used to higher speeds.

I moved to Sky Internet when i move house as I had heard good things about them. Couple of things to bear in mind.

1) Despite telling me otherwise they do traffic shape at 4pm every day. From 4pm onwards i cannot download from newsgroups and things like Youtube are all but useless.
2) If the router breaks you have to wait for a new one. You are not allowed to use your own router. Any other provider you can configure and get back online.

After 10 days i got to speak to the 3rd line guys who were very good but the trolls i had to deal with to get there made outsourced helpesks look good.

As soon as i can get out of the contract the better.

really?
surely you can configure any router to replace the sky one. How can they stop you?

Before you really consider it, ensure that there is a sky presence in the exchange that will be serving you. If they don't have a presence you will not be eligible for the cheaper deal..

Have a look here to find out : http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

It was a about 6 months ago now but i seem to remember something about data protection.
My router arrived and gave up the ghost a week later. Happened to be a week i was oncall for my work and i needed internet. As it would take a week to arrive i told them i had a couple of my own upstairs which we could configure if they could tell me the account and server details. Spoke to several agents and their line manager but they would not permit me to use my own router.

I think they said that the account password used for connecting was coded to the routers and they could not reset it.

Having said that I know several people who use them and are happy with the service. They however don't use the internet all the time, don't care about downloads, only check email and have not had any problems.

Just foudn this https://www.cm9.net/skypass/
Would have been useful last year.

They can't actually stop you, but it is against their T&Cs. I've never understood it, but plenty run their own router, it's just a bit of a pain in the arse to get your username and password out of the Sky-provided Netgear unit!
