I am struggling with excel. I am trying to calculate the difference in minutes between two times entered by me.
I.e. I will enter: Start time, checkpoint 1 time, checkpoint2 time, checkpoint 3 time etc.
I want the sheet to output time taken from start to checkpoint1, checkpoint2 etc in minutes.

To make it more complex, sometimes the time taken between checkpoints can be over 24 hours. So perhaps a date field is needed too?

All i am getting is columns of #############

  1. ####### in a column just means that the column is too narrow to fit the data - if you widen the column the data should appear.

Yep, As said above. widen the cell, then you'll see the characters you want.

Select the grey square above A and to the left of 1, it'll highlight every cell. Then get the cursor on the line between row 1 and 2, and double click.

You will need time and date for differnces over 24hrs. Select the cell and press CTRL and 1 (at the same time) - under the "Number" tab select "Custom" and then use the format "dd/mm/yy hh:mm".

My preference would be to have the values formated as custom then yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss

the differnce is the latest datetime - the first datetime. Format that cell as custom then hh:mm:ss

Great stuff, this seems to do the job nicely.

How can i change the output hh:mm:ss to just minutes?

Unfortunately mm means month and minute.
Easiest way is to have the folloowing formula =(DAY(K113)*24*60)+(HOUR(K113)*60)+(MINUTE(K113)) where k113 is the difference between two times as previously discussed
