Taking my dropped phone back to the Apple Store today to try and get a repair/replacement.

Just wondering if anyone knows how to securely wipe an iPhone? Obviously it's full of my emails/passwords/calendar stuff/etc.

I wouldnt worry, i had my hard drive replaced my a Dell technicion and asked him what happens to the old drives.
They get melted down and destroyed for Data protection reasons.
Whether or not this actually happens i do not know.

I got my iPhone replaced last weekend and the bloke at the Genius Bar told me the old ones get destroyed and recycled where ever possible (not recycled into new phones, but plastic recycled etc). TBH They don't tend to repair them, if it's a crack or something, they'll do a replacement there and then.

Putting on eMule, I'd think.

Random question: Does the Erase and Reset function on the iPhone overwrite the data deleted?

Anyone know? Was just wondering out of interest, I've read some posts that erasing the data on the iPhone also overwrites it with zeros?

Ccleaner wipes the freespace on my iPod, so it probably does the same for iPhone.

When I plug my iPod in, Ccleaner just lists it as the next drive, in my case F:\

iphone does not appear as a drive in windows so ccleaner will not work.

do the clear function (takes a couple of hours) or restore. Never take a chance that someone will dispose of something securely for you....

I'm not too bothered as I logged out of my email account and everything before I returned the phone, I just wondered if the iPhone does it's own secure erase or whether it just deletes everything and leaves the file behind.
