I got a request, didn't know the person and so selected this option

However... I've since met them and I had actually met them previously a few years ago.

I went onto LinkedIn to accept their invitation and it says:
" Status:
You indicated you did not know <blah blah>
"

Is there anyway to now accept this original invitation as I can't see hwo to and only get the option to archive?

Don't think you can accept the original invitation, you will need to send or receive a new invitation.

On another angle, how do you decline someone you don't know and who LinkedIn keeps sending you mail reminders that you haven't accepted yet? I don't want to accept and then delete, just reject in the first place!

Is there anything good about it? I've had some requests but declined.

If you work in IT and in sales or you are in recruitment it can be very useful.
I've denied all requests from recruiters because I heard that they add you and then just spam all of your 'connections'
