I would have thought that with the advance in technology these days that battery life with mobile phones would at least be able to catch up with the technology of the actual phones!.Anybody else feel like this?I was reading the other day that scientists have made a pump that is the size of a human blood cell??Yet no-one can make a battery for a mobile phone that lasts any decent amount of time?,battery development seems to be lacking way behind in my opinion.I've had an HTC Desire smartphone for a few weeks and the battery life is shocking!

You need to think of smartphones as small laptops rather than just phones. They use a LOT of power doing all the "smart" stuff.

Dumb phones can run for weeks on the same batteries.

Depends on the phone you get. iPhone 3G, a day if you're VERY lucky. Nokia X6 I'm still seeing 3-4 days with similar useage to the iPhone.

My Desire lasts aaages on a charge. Mined ewe, no one phones or texts me and I don't phone or text anyone. (actually, it lasts a lot less when I browse "hand held media" on my hand held)

The very first phone call I ever received on my very first mobile was a wrong number.

I get a week on my phone.

Nokia something or other, from Tesco, £20. It phones and texts. What more do you need?

i think its the fact that modern phones do so much.

my samsung tocco ultra lasts a day max if used quite a lot.

where as an ancient nokia 3330 used to last the best part of a week.

although atleast the charge on modern phones is a lot quicker, the samsung usually takes less than an hour for a full charge.

where from what i can remember the old ancient ones took houres.

its not necessarily just a dumb v smartphone question.

Used to have a BB 7230 - it was pulling through mails on a support mailbox 24 hours a day. That would last 7 days before needing a charge. Aweseome. Current BB models are nowhere near as good.

I had to change my old Nokia 6300 as the 02 cell site where I work has really crap 2G voice quality. SO I now have a cheapo Nokia 2700 that does 3G. My old phone went 2-3 days of fairly heavy use between charges. My new phone set to GSM does the same but when set to 3G only does only about a day and a bit.

I'm on day 7 of HTC Desire ownership and just a few short calls, a couple of e-mails, about 25 texts and an hour of surfing and the phone only lasts about 14 hours.

Not good, especially as I have to tell myself to leave it alone. My previous Nokia N82 would take a whole day of net use as well as calls and texts and if not charged at night, would still get me through most of the next day. That's on a 2 year old battery. Mind you using the net on that phone was not a nice experience.

I just need my Desire to get from an early start till about 2 am, sometimes a typical working day for me, without me having to worry about usage.

Lord knows what it would be like if I used it's video and music capabilities. Best keep my iPod Touch then.
