I'm with Tiscali and to be honest I can't really tell the difference unless I'm downloading stuff. Still having connection problems too.

I have Tiscali at my office and whilst it works very well the customer service has been totally attrocious when trying to sort out the service for a move. I was without the service for a month, and have been charged for it. Rang to query this and after a hlf hour wait (at my expense) I got an answerphone, and there has been no response to my message after a week. Haven't had a spare half hour again to call them back - it wasn't the first time this has happened to me.

i know many people slag off NTL but I have the 600k connection for £24.99 a month and find it spot on. First month was free on the 12 month contract too

Eclipse are one of the best I've ever used, very good speeds, cheap and good customer support.

I'm with Bulldog at the moment and they're not so great, I think their network is getting congested.

Pipex OK for connections but crap for customer service. I mean really bad. had to write to the MD to get a response.

I've founf Zen and Nildram rather good. Clara.Net is good but a bit pricey.

PlusNet are a good non-cable (i.e. telephone line) provider. For 25 quid a month you get 512kb, modem, 250Mb of web space, no connection fee and unlimited email addresses, plus a number of other niceties (receiving faxes to your inbox for example).

Zen and Nildram are OK too, and I never had a major problem with BT in 4yrs' use. Though now they are not the best value.

Virgin are good if you don't want to be tied in for 12mths.

Tiscali look good in the ads, but (which might be why you don't notice any difference - full speed broadband is much quicker). Compare apples with apples and they aren't especially cheap. I'm always a little wary of this sort of firm - if the majority of their customers are drawn into the 16 quid deal, how are they paying for decent support staff...

Nildram - no one else is close to the service or the support they give.

Pipex!

Never had any problems with them (3 years, 4 separate installations).

No problem with customer support or service. Took a while to get hold of some filters once, but was all sorted.

And you can order without them sending/charging for a modem if you've already got one i.e. no connection setup fee.

Phil.

I'm with Pipex and have no complaints. The occansional downtime but that is down to some lazy BT employees weeing inside the Exchange round the corner rather than Pipex.

Don't bother with Dickie Branson's versions, total waste of time with blackouts that last days & email nightmares at least every month.

We've got a 600k connection here at home and in my house at uni we've got a 1mb connection (£35 per month). I've had no problems with them. Modem comes with an ethernet port so very easy to network as well

Be careful to read the small print, some suppliers "down grade" your bandwidth at certain times of the day. You may think you have 512 but in fact you may end up with only 256. Of course all this may not actually worry you.

and your 500K+ speed might be the upload speed only and your download speed might only be 256k+
