I'm looking for a good access point, that will do WPA. I will be using it with an Ipaq 5550, and a laptop with this new fangled Centrino wireless card in it.
The problem is that I may want to get a faster PC Card in the future for the laptop (the centrino card is 11meg), and I seem to be having trouble finding a 54meg card that has Linux support, that has an access point that does WPA from the same manufacturer...

Do I need to get the 54meg PC Card from the same manufacturer as the access point to ensure compatibility? or are all 54 meg cards compatible with all 54 meg access points? Is WPA compatible across manufacturers?

So far, the Linksys WAP54G (~£65-70) is looking good for the AP, but the Linksys PC cards have no Linux support..... The D-Link cards look to have good Linux support (MADWifi), but the access points appear to not have WPA unless you're talking loads of money.

Thanks in advance....

Instead of looking for a card solution you could use a wireless bridge such as the Linksys WET54G:

This can be used with any old 100mbit ethernet card, and indeed any wired device in the future. I've been using the 802.llB one (WET11) for a while on a linux server and it works a treat.

certainly worth a thought.... looks a little larger than a PC Card though..... might be a bit bulky to cart around in my laptop bag??
