Xbox auto off function

Due mainly to me being a lazy b**tard I can never be bothered to get out of bed, walk across the room and switch the Xbox off after watching a DVD

The Auto Off feature is enabled so why when i wake up 9 hours later is the thing still humming away?!
Does the auto-off not work when its in DVD playback mode or something...?
