At that resolution it is difficult to say for sure, but I would go with Garamond- there are a few versions out there... ITC, Adobe etc.

Think this ^ is closer as the W is quite distinctive.

I've used that identifont twice now and have got different answers each time silly, and can't decide which it's closest to....

It's a nice font, I'm going to start using that. Very Imperial typewriter.

Loving the full stop and the comma too, now that is someone who knows what's what.

It is nice, simple & elegant.

(can't believe I'm discussing the merits of a font - I really should get out more hehe )

Garamond?

Hmm, I know that and just typed something in it, doesn't seem quite the same, not old school enough.

Maybe I need a typewriter and old paper.

On Empyrean, the '6' is an open loop. Royal Romain seems closer:

I like that. I bet it's old-fashioned letterpress and not litho, which gives the slightly 'antiqued' look.

On a font-related note, does anyone know the name of/where to find that sort of "Olde English" type of font that was so beloved of the Nazis?

You know the one - think Colditz and that.

ETA: S'OK, found it.
