Talk fecking talk
Discussion
Just moved house, so thought I'd see what they offer. I (embarrassingly) went with them, as they offered £60 connection and phone line with BB for £18.50/month.
They couldn't port my old phone number over though, so put a call into BT. They came back and offered the connection for £50, phone line with BB for £33/month with a £36 credit (£3/month for 12 months).
So, I phoned up TalkTalk to cancel, I wasn't 100% about them and would rather be with BT for £10/month more. I pressed the right buttons, as soon as I mentioned cancelling I happened to be put on hold for 20 minutes. Then told the guy to cancel it as I'd rather be with BT. Then he just starting lying, 'Oh, but our broadband is free'. No, I don't think it is, this order is stating £6.99, as the website does. etc... Lying basically.
I then visit the website, to find their little comparison is wrong. Anyone care to spot the mistake?

To sum up, Talk Talk are
s. I won't give them my business.

s. I won't give them my business. The problem with going O2 or Sky is I need to pay the £127 connection fee then the rental for O2 or Sky. BT offered a £86 credit to take their broadband, and I've not heard anything bad about them really (I work in IT).
So I either pay £127 now, £12.49/month to BT for the rental and then £17.50/month for O2.
Or, £41 now, £12.49/month and then £20.99/ month to BT.
The chart I posted shows the incorrect price for the rental on the essentials.
ETA: My exchange doesn't have unbundled LLUs or Virgin.

Why give it away free when people can be scammed for £6.99 a month? So I either pay £127 now, £12.49/month to BT for the rental and then £17.50/month for O2.

Is there Virgin cable in your area?
They do both phone and internet, and a good TV package too.
And their internet is far superior to BT's offerings.
I've Sky+ HD and the Virgin media broadband. In my experienced despite their broadband Virgin's customer service is so piss poor. I got fed up with speaking to India every time I had a problem, but the only reason I still have broadband through them is because currently it's unsurpassed at 50mb!They do both phone and internet, and a good TV package too.

king police urgently!I'm a bit old school in all this.
Phone and broadband - BT - find them excellent (upgraded to BT Infinity recently)
TV - SKY - find them excellent
Gas - British gas- find them excellent
Leccy - EDF- find them excellent
Water - Thames Water- find them excellent
I'm sure someone will tell me that by making 426 phone calls and spending x hours I could save myself £7.63 every other month or something, but you know what, I don't care. I get excellent service when I speak to these people and when I talk to friends and colleagues who do switch things around there are ALWAYS tales of woe.
Seems to me the Talk talk thing is a classic example. Make things so f
king complicated that only an astronaut can understand them.....that way, they can fleece you to their hearts content!

I'm pretty much the same, in trying to decipher the confusion marketing techniques widely applied by the likes of TT and BT the only hole you dig in the end is one for yourself!Phone and broadband - BT - find them excellent (upgraded to BT Infinity recently)

The sole reason I have a BT landline is for Broadband, I very rarely make calls. I use Zen as a provider, quite expensive, but its bloody good, and hassle free. Unlike my old provider , Nildram, which was superb untill TalkTalk took it over and ruined it.

Virgin BB is superb.
Not to mention the appalling customer service and heavily oversold/under capacity network.
If you can get a decent ADSL connection in your area I'd avoid Virgin like the plague. I've had a faultless experience with O2/Be for the last year.

Started out with there 10mb line, never got less the 9mb, moved up to their 20mb and curently get between 18 and 20mb pretty much all day. And unlike sky they as yet havent taken £1K out of my account and refused to pay it back, or like TalkTalk kept me on the phone for 4 hours they finally deciding I should "just give it up and by a new laptop as thats probably where the problems is" and that was after making me keep a log of my line speed 4 times aday for a week
I signed up for the 20mb Virgin service a few years ago, they put me on the 2mb service. I phoned them multiple times but always ended up being kept on hold or farmed off to a foreign call centre worker who went over the same 'are you using wifi, speeds are only a guide' spiel, or told to phone their premium rate technical support line, which seemed unfair as it was clearly their problem.
Anyway, after 4 months of angry letters and emails to anyone whose contact details I could find at Virgin or Ofcom they eventually noticed their mistake, put me on the correct package and gave me a token couple of months free. Which didn't really make up for all the time, effort and money I wasted on calls and paying well over the odds for a 2mb connection.
I never saw more than 18mb at quiet times, it would typically drop down to about 8-10mb speeds throughout most of the day (inner city location, lots of Virgin users locally). I moved house and cancelled after 12 months, never been near them since and never will.
