Any suggestions on a tough mobile phone?

I don't need anything feature packed as it's for use with a PAYG SIM, but something that can take the odd knock would be useful.

I guess one school of thought is look at things like Sonim (yes I have seen that video smile), and another is buy the cheapest phone possible and chuck it when it breaks.

JCB do a tough phone, friends dad has one and he works on a building site, it always gets run over by Tele-handlers and forklifts and works still works great! It's basic but does the job.

Agree with the JCB suggestion. Mate is a block paver and he's purposely ran a whacker over it, put it in a bucket of water and rang it and run over it with his van. It still works fine.

Nokia do the 3720 which is quite tough.

Alternately should be able to get a refurbished 5140 or 5210 for peanuts. I had a 5210 for about 2.5 years and that phone was tough and took a fair amount of abuse.

None of these will be as tough as the JCB efforts etc, but I imagine they will be somewhat cheaper.

My old Nokia 8210 took lots of abuse, an old phone now, but i'm sure they were built to last longer than the current generation of phones. No good for 3G though.

Flash doesn't work with iPhones. Apple say it's a dying software/concept.

I'm inclined to agree. Poncy waste of time.

Tbh any of the pre 2000 phones are very robust, particulary the old Nokia 8310.

Unless they've already looked at the idea and decided against it, I reckon Casio are missing a trick here by not making a G-Phone yes

The best value, and as tough as the others - how's about a full wash cycle at 50C and still working - is the Samsung ruggedised phone. Cost about £70 on PAYG.

Think they do two versions now too.

I've got one and they're excellent! Good to know as well that it can survive a washing machine! I'm on Vodafone and get signal where most people don't as well.

Long time ago ,Nokia brought out the 3310 - we started using them at work - and we worked in all weathers ,so they got dropped/knocked/soaked etc . But they still worked . And came back for more . I parted with my works one when I couldn't get replacement batteries .The phone kept on working, the battery couldn't hold a charge . My personal one -I gave to my DIL ,and it still works . Never heard of one that packed up at work - and work - that was on railways , on site in all weathers .
