How many of you are so devoid of a life that you spent all morning queuing round the block for a bloody I Phone?
I just don't get it. Ok they may be desirable to some but there is no kudos in telling your mates you got the bloody thing a day or two before they did.
The queue at the Apple store in Manchester this morning was ridiculous. You would think they were giving them away.
A very sorry sight to see in my eyes. Get a life for Christ sake.
Mods, this isn't a tech thread, more a social commentary thing

I happened to walk past the apple store on oxford street last night at about 2030. There were people queuing round the corner. Looking at the state of these individuals I am not surprised they were queuing, they look like they have nothing better to do. They fulfilled every angle of the geek stereotype! The guy at the front of the queue had a cardboard sign saying "tweet me [insert his name]" Wtf is that all about??
Edited to add, no I was not walking to the front of the queue to offer the guy money for his place

It appears advertising/marketing can convince people that they have an urgent need to obtain an item before their neighbour or friend or whatever. Its the same whether its cars, phones, houses, watches.
Personally I like to wait until something is a proven product and then I'll buy it, usually for about half what it cost when first on the market.

Mate of mine works at one of the Apple stores. Th estimate was that at opening time, there would be 700 people queueing for phones. They can process 120 in an 8 hour day so there will be a lot of unhappy punters.
I really don't get it either. He's on his 8th iphone now, due to the others all failing. Never seems to get texts or answers his phone as he says he never hears it....

Personally i am not really fussed about Apple stuff. I use macs in work and they seem decent enough.
I can even understand the whole Apple fan boy thing. They are well designed and to some degree iconic but spending hours queuing for a phone to find they will probably have run out of stock before you get to the till?
You have got me there!
