Am soon to move into a new place and although I am currently with Sky I am wondering if BT or Virgin are worth considering?

I'm after the whole package - Phone, broadband & TV. Anyone got experience with BT (vision) or Virgin? Any good?

We are with Virgin, have been with them for the whole bundle since they were Cable and Wireless, so that's quite a long time, and I have always said that I would never ever go back to Sky/BT. Sometimes it can be hard work with the call centre, but it's not as bad as some, and they do send an engineer when they say they will. Plus if you push them, you can sometimes get the odd discount applied here and there.

Haven't had many problems with the digital tv, the broadband has only had a few wobbles, at most was only off 2 days, and cannot think of any time the phone hasn't worked.

We've got Virgin Cable and we're pretty happy with it. The V+ box throws a wobbly occasionally but it's reliable most of the time. I particularly like not having to pay BT some line rental just to have broadband through someone else.

On a related note, BT were particularly poor when we cancelled the contract at my OH's old flat - they owed her some money (a paltry £3 or something) and it took them 6 months to send her the cheque.

I'm with Virgin, broadband is reliable and v. fast and not having to pay BT line rental makes it a significantly cheaper option (as we just use our mobiles rather than having a home phone)

Another vote for Virgin although I only use the broadband. My phone is piped down the broadband using VOIP.

I am with SkyHD now and Broadband is fine, but the HD box regularly 'hangs' and has failed recordings (like once or twice a month) so am wondering if Virgin or BT would be better...

Can't comment on Virgin, but avoid BT like the plague. I moved from BT to Sky and currently have TV, phone and broadband with them. I know some people have slated them in the past, but I have to say that whenever I've had cause to call them, they've been brilliant. Reasons I like Sky:

* Broadband is twice as fast as I got with BT (5mb vs. 2mb)
* Sky's top broadband package is just over half the price of BT's (£15 vs. £25)
* BT throttle you hard if you go over 40Gb in a month (without warning). Sky is genuinely unlimited (never slows down in the evening either)
* Phone line with Sky is £12 a year cheaper than BT. Not much, but at least it's not going to BT.
* Support is 24-hour, and UK-based.

I know people on Virgin who get awesome speeds, but Virgin also throttle connections if you hit their limits. For broadband I've also heard very good things about Be as well, although this doesn't address your requirement for TV & phone.

I really would stick with Sky until they give you cause to want to leave.

That would depend on what Sky can offer you, Sky Connect is probably the worst BB you can get in the UK.

I've always had the top package, not had any issues at all. What's different about the 'Connect' package?

It's via the BT network and massivly over-subscribed. How does 400k down after 5pm sound??!!

I don't understand that sentence. We get our TV & BB from Virgin and that includes some Sky channels (depending on package).

I'd say that if you are in a Virgin cable are, then go for that in favour of the others, which run ADSL over phone lines. I'm on a VM 20M package and my download speeds are pretty close to that - with ADSL over copper lines you'll be lucky to get anything like the advertised speeds.

Happy with Virgin - have phone, tv, bb and mobile with them, all except the last for 8 years or so.

Yes I have this, but will BT be any better, no cable in my area at the present, would it speed up if I used TalkTalk?

Ouch. Presumably it's because connections like mine are the ADSL2+ (which you can't, weirdly, get on BT)?

Sky was excellent when we had it at uni. Two years, no problems.
