It certainly is an interesting read. I cetainly don't check in at home or anywhere private. I mostly use it to virtually fight with a colleague over who can be mayor of the office. Pretty sad I guess but strangely addictive. I have no issue with people knowing where I am either, you just need to be careful where you use it I suppose.People are making out like foursquare constantly shares your location with the entire world. It doesn't. Checking in on foursquare is a manual process which (from a privacy point of view) is hardly different to posting "I'm having a few quite beers at DD's with friends" on your facebook/twitter.
I'm trying it out at the moment, but I don't think enough people in the UK are using it to really make it valuable yet. I have heard that it's taken off in a big way in certain parts of the states though.

Will, I used it a bit while I was over in the states last week and you're right, it is massive, on more than one occasion I checked in somewhere and somebody else was in there too. It's weird. You have their picture and you can literally spot them, happened twice in a restaurant.
Weirdly though, it seems a lot of them have 'My House' and 'Home' as self made points of interest which to me seems pretty stupid. Alice K has just checked into 'Place X' - Ah, she's not at home then!
It's not so massive in my part of the world but a lot of the more popular lunchtime haunts in the city have some decent tips!
I await to see how it takes off with interest. Is it just iPhone compatible at the moment?

Unlike Lattitude which tells your friends automatically.I'm trying it out at the moment, but I don't think enough people in the UK are using it to really make it valuable yet. I have heard that it's taken off in a big way in certain parts of the states though.

...but doesn't give away your precise location, and isn't visible to anyone except approved friends. Both are very different and both are interesting. Whether either takes off in the long run I am not sure but at the moment Foursquare is the more finished product. Latitude is still at the typical Google stage of "We've made this cool thing, see if you can find a use for it"
I find Foursquare fascinating - the concept as much as anything else - and the whole location-aware app/site business-space is one that is only going to grow. It's really the tip of the iceberg at the moment and I mainly use it to see what will be coming next.
Currently I think the main useful aspects of Foursquare are the user-added tips and the business-added specials.
Just please don't ping every single checkin to your Twitter stream. It's really annoying, and no-one is *that* interested ... except maybe stalkers!
