iPhone4
Always avoided iPhones mainly because of the poor camera and lack of flash. Plus every touch screen I've ever used has proved me to be too ham fisted. However the 4 is so easy to use, so fast, hours of fun, brilliant battery life, fantastic screen. I was very impressed and still am. Only thing is you pay for what you get so it isn't the cheapest.
It was a toss up between that and a HTC, was advised not to get a HTC from the I.T bloke at work who has both. iPhone 4 is better hands down - His knowledgeable words, not mine.

An IT literate friend of mine has both and has said the HTC is the better phone - it boils down to use, battery life, requirements and testing.Me. I've got a Palm Pre

I've since had a go one 2 different HTCs that are works phones in my office, not sure which exact model but I don't find myself longing for one.
All the directors in my office are on iPhones, people further down the hierarchy are on HTC
I bought mine myself haha.
What it boils down to is what you want to use it for, what contract term you what, where you are and whether you can try phones out.
My mate can afford to buy both on PAYG and spend time pissing about with them - most can't do this - but it's the only way to test these things properly.

ETA - My Palm Pre has the same sort of battery life as an iPhone and I have a rather nifty Touchstone base that I can sit the phone on and it charges - I've not had to plug it in to a charger for ages.
I'm on O2 and my signal is ok - Orange is, where I live, laughable (which makes using the work phone entertaining at best).

I wouldn't touch T-mobile, just, well, because it's T-mobile. Though I'm up north, I hear they're more popular in the south.
Also wouldn't touch Orange simply because many colleagues have had issues with loss of signal and bad cooperation from customer service, and that's on a high value business contract!!

You do realise HTC make various different types of phone? It's like saying "An Astra 1.6 GL is better than a Ford". A Ford *what*?
HTC's best offering is the 'Desire'. As for comparing it to the iPhone 4, yes it's excellent and is directly comparable.
Is it better for you? Who knows, that depends on the owner and what he/she likes.
I've had both, prefer the HTC Desire. So does the missus who's changed to one.
PS. Battery life is only ste if you turn so much on it could land a space shuttle. Battery life goes between 8 hours and 3 days dependent on what you do with it.

Just to balance that out, been on O2 for 3 years and live/work in London. The network has good days and bad days. Earlier this year it had about a month of bad days.Generally it's ok, but I would be a long way from calling it faultless.

I charge mine up when i'm sleeping and when i'm at work. seems to last about 8 hours with average use. Thing is, the more gadgets it has on it, the more you will use it. No-one buys an iphone to leave in their pocket and not play with.
other than that, it is very cool. (excepting no bluetooth or photo or address book transfer)

I hammer my iPhone and the battery just takes it like a b
h. You must be constantly watching those videos I don't watch on those sites I don't visit. I hear they drain the battery.
I charge it every night just out of habit but don't really need to.
Oh and the HTC doesn't have Anrgy Birds

Swings and roundabouts but in my personal experience I wouldn't defect from o2.

P.s.. who uses bluetooth nowadays? Really? It's so slow it's not worth the bother for data transfer. If you mean for hands free I'm pretty sure there is a hands free for the iphone.
P.s #2 ... Wouldn't touch 3 mobile with a barge pole either, mate was with them and their way of billing on units caught him out a few times, could say his fault but they don't make it simple. Plus his reception was wk on 3 from what I remember.
