Need to get a new printer, and deskspace is at a premium.

Only need for letters and stuff, no graphics - will use work for colour and graphic stuff. This is just for home use to print the occasional letter when there isn't time to wait for printing at work the next day.

Needs therefore to be cheap - £100 approx
Small, yet decent and reliable quality.

About the size of this one
This one's colour at £189, dimensions 31cm x 17cm x 5cm

Any suggestions?

maybe not small enough but i got fed up with ink jet and costs of consumables so i just got the cheapest laser printer..samsung, that i could find at the time. About 0.5p per page rather than the 10p - 20p per page for ink jets.

£85 is a damn good price. Bit chunky mind....very tempted though.

The colour one is more than I want to pay, and I don't need colour, just for correspondence. Haven't been to MicroDirect in a while, having a good browse now

Canon used to do (May still do it) a laptop printer that was very small and effective. My Dad used to have you used to be able to change the cartridges over to change it from b&w to colour.

Luca, Samsung ML1510 is what you want, I got one from PC world, online store for only £99, it has done thousands of pages, and with a toner refil kit I got for £16 it will do many thousands more.

I have one of these LB www.hp-expo.com/uk/eng/consumer/inkjet/c6490a.html you can get them at PCworld for about £90 + vat, ok its colour aswell but its very Quick. Quiet and a reasonable size, About as wide as a Keyboard, paper feed is at the front so it fits in a narrow shelf too.

Dimensions in mm 450mm wide, 400 deep including paperfeed and 130mm Tall.

Just what I was thinking - I used one from 92-98 and whilst very slow, it was fine. Compact, quiet and cartridges are cheap too.

NB Seems odd that you can get a new colour printer for £50, but a b/w one costs £99?!

I bought a samsung ml-4500 a year ago for way under 100 quid and it's been absolutely fine. Much cheaper to run than an inkjet. The print quality isn't what I'd call book quality but it's easily up to scratch for letters.

It's a laser printer, so much better at printing volume, far quicker than any inkjet, doesn't have nozzles clogged like an inkjet does through lack of use, far cheaper to run, iirc my £12 toner refill will do 20,000 pages of text!

I also have an Epson Stylus Photo 895, whilst very good, it doesn't get used nearly as much as the Samsung Laser does.
