Have got a spreadsheet I'm using at work to record marks for students work. Set up an autofilter so I can sort missing marks etc. When I select 'blanks ' for example, it filters OK, but then won't let me unfilter it or filter any other column, evrything else appears to work. I've used it in Excel 97, 2000, and 2003 and all do the same. I've renamed the file still doesn't work.

Any ideas????

If you want to send me your file as a private e mail i will have a look at it. I am an Analyst so have quite good knowledge of excel, and i run XP and i can filter several columns at once, so unsure of your problem without seeing it.
I will regard everything as confidential and will be happy to help if i can.

Carl, can you tell me exactly what you want to filter. I think it is as simple as where the filter is positioned, but if you explain which bits you want, then i will be able to understand better.

When it worked I got all the right options.
On the sheet labelled 'All', I want to primarily, just find the blanks in each of the columns.
It did give me a list of all the available values in the column, so I knew that bit worked, It just would only let me do it once, after that no options at all. I can edit the rest of the worksheet and do what I like, its just the filter.

OK,the first two columns don't give the option for blanks, and I can only do 1 filter.

its because the sheet data is all formula driven, so a blank isn't really a blank as it has a formula in the cell. Still playing so will keep you posted.

Really getting confused and fed up now. If I set up autofilters on the other sheets, some work all the time, some work once, some work a few times then stop.

Am going to start again from scratch and see if I can cure it.

I am also banging my head against a brick wall. Like you, the other pages work, then don't. And the all sheet, the formulas are all inconsistant ie picking up for all over the place. But it will not defeat me, i am going to try and re create it. On the "all" shett, is it just showing everything that happened on a1 mon etc?

The 'all' sheet is all the marks from the other six sheets put together for ease of reference, or what was supposed to be easy. Thanks for your help, but don't let it interfere with your work.

I can't let this beat me, work can wait. I should know instantly why this isn't working so its good practice for me.

Would the "all" sheet have the same student on 2 seperate lines, or are they different classes/subjects?

I don't mind having a go if you wish. Nothing I like more than an excel challenge although sounds like racegirl is quite handy too...
