I'm getting quite a few spam e-mails via Yahoo lately. These have always got a person's name in the "From" field, and the subject line always contains a couple of words to tempt you to open it, preceded by a number - couple or three digits. I have not opened any but I'm wondering if they are a known pattern of some sort.

I think the numbers are to fool the spam filters, the big mail providers look for emails which are sent to many addresses and gives its spam score more weight, if there is a few random numbers the emails look like they are different.
