If the virus has established itself in the PC you will really struggle to remove it on the PC itself.

What AV software are you running?

Best bet is to take it to a local computer shop (and I DON'T mean a PC World or similar) and have the virus removed properly (requres your drive being scanned on a "clean PC" and then cleaned up when it is back in your PC) and is NOT something that can be rushed.

Some of these are a real swine to get off.

If it cant be fixed, pour a little rusty over it [kills all known gers]and trojans then put it through your insurance, then kick the sh*t out of your boy [sorry you cant do that nowadays] give him a rusty, that'll keep him quiet for a while.

The below is all free, all it will cost you is your time (back up any important files to a separate USB stick - though assume this stick will be infected so will need to sweep it before any used in any machine). The below will work with any flavour of windows from XP up - if you have windows 7 you could try Security essentials from microsoft but I haven't used it so can't personally recommend it.

http://www.avg.com/ww-en/avg-rescue-cd

Download the above from a clean PC and burn to disk.
Download Malwarebytes
Download Ccleaner
Download Avast anti virus
Download Spybot search and destroy
Download Kerio personal firewall
Download Spywareblaser all from a clean pc onto a separate USB stick.
Boot from rescue disk in infected pc and run the sweeps (may take a little while).
Reset machine boot into safe mode.
Run malwarebytes in safe mode.
Turn off system restore
run Ccleaner and registry sweep.
reboot system.
install Avast, spywareblaster, spybot search and destroy, kerio
update and perform sweeps.
This should clean off most nasties and if they are kept updated should stop reinfection.

Hopefully you will now have a nice and clean pc.

Or... reinstall. And lock it down with user accounts with no admin rights.

Same trick works for managing my aged fathers computer..
