Weird NTL broadband connected problem

I have a strange problem, but leaving that aside for the moment, my computer has been acting oddly.

Basically, the pc keeps resetting itself intermitantly. Sounds like a straight forward virus problem however, at the same time my NTL settop box (housing the BB connection) is also tripping out. Checking through the log files the reset/trip out is definitely simultaneous.

I run McAfee Virusscan and firewall, have a BB router thingy which also has a firewall and AFAIK the OS (W2K) is patched up to date.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this before or know what could be causing it?

I haven't experienced that particular problem but it is the case that I have to turn off my NTL modem to stop my computer hanging on the "pc is shutting down" screen.
