Hi,

I have a problem with Internet explorer and clicking on links that download files (for example .zip or.exe or any (I think) for that matter).

I am running Windows XP Pro SP1, and Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1.

I was hit with one of the CWS spyware things that kept taking me to http://nkvd.us. Running CWS Shredder, I was able to remove it, but now whenever I try to download anything with IE (clicking on a hyperlink) I am simply taken to an error page with URL that is simply: "http:///" (note the 3 forward slashes...), whereas before, clicking on a download link would pop up a dialog asking me whether I want to save the file, and where I want to save it to. I can still right-click and do "Save Target As" though...

I am wondering how I bring back this functionality, whether there is a registry entry that is missing or incorrect, and whether I can fix this up at all?

What I found with the CWS virus/trojan/spyware is that clicking on a hyperlink to download a file would take me to the offending URL (eg http://nkvd.us), but now I am taken nowhere - just to http:/// ...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Michael

It does sound like something is missing in your registry. Have you tried those registry repairer programs? They're free to download.

You could search the registry for 'http:///' and add your preferred URL to it each time it appears....?
