Right ....

Im not that clever when it comes to PC's but i know the basics , i have recently connected my laptop to the router via a RJ45 Cable , as i was told this was the right thing to do and it fits the hole , then it connected to the Net after i had installed all the drivers ect , BUT it sends packets out and doesnt recieve any at all , this stumped me so i posted on forums an stuff , dead end , and now i am renewing my plea , Plz help me im stressed!

Im using a Win XP Pro AMD Duron 1.3ghz PC , with Origo ADSL USB Router

My Laptop is a Compaq Armada M300 With built in Intel 10/100Mbps ethernet card , also running on Win XP Pro , i have tried many solutions but i give up easily if they dont work....

The IP address my machine is on is 10.0.0.9
And the Laptops just says "Unavailable" as do many other things , i dont get it , AND im only 15 so go easy on me!....

I think that direct connections between computers via LAN needs to be done with a crossover cable, not a standard CAT5 cable.
Unless you use a hub/switch etc.

Does the router not act as a hub , coz otherwise whats the point of having it?

Does your router / network card have a link light? Is it lit?

I would go with the crossover idea, also see whether the router needs to be configured to enable that port.
