Email Storage?

It's taken me 3 hours to open Outlook Express, bottom line is I think I overloaded it.

Exported 12000+ emails to Microsoft Outlook.


Now my question is, is MO the best way to store old email, or is there something else?

I average about 100 - 150 to keep everyday due to work, so you can see how the build up.

Any ideas?

I use Outlook with Exchange and have loads of items in my sent items and inbox that I keep..... Outlook opens OK.... don't know about storing it locally though.... might be pushing it. Saying that, Outlook Express uses a different storage method..... h ave you tries "full" outlook with pst files instead?

Do you need instant access to all of them?

If not, export the ones you dont need to a PST and then zip it.

Import it when you need something.

I just use the Archive function on outlook.

1.5gb archive pst, 38mb outlook.pst.

Reduces Ram load, eliminates loading time, and still gives access to all the old emails for those occasional times i need them.

That' my problem.

I have my two companies, the band's fans / shows / on line store etc etc + The Cerbera register, family blah blah.

When you say Archive, is that in Microsoft Outlook as apposed to Outlook Express?

I noticed that, but prefer to use OE as MO is synced to my XDA II so I don't want thousands
of email being sent over.

Or does OE have an archive I've missed?

OE is exactly that, Express.

Without all the bells and whistles in MO.

I am afraid you will have to Move to MO to allow for the automatic daily / weekly / whenever archiving of specific / all folders / emails.

I get quite a few mails each day (not as many as JamieBeeston mind!), and sync just my inbox with my Ipaq5550..... it only syncs the first 100 k or something, and only the last 2 weeks worth. I have rules that shuffle anything I don't want in my inbox (and can therefore wait until I'm at my 'puter) into sub folders that don't sync to my ipaq.... auto archive keeps the folders clear of old junk, by either archiving, or deleting as necessary.....

Why not just disable email synching between MO and the XDA. I assume that is possible; it is with other PDA's i've used.
