A mate of mine had about 200 mini discs full of music. Does anyone know of any way of transfering the contents of the discs to his PC for backing up purposes?
He would want to be able to copy both ways so if a disc became damaged he could replace the tracks easily.
He does not want to record from the discs one by one for obvious reasons, more a copy and paste type way if that makes any sense.

Sony do a PC Link cable for MiniDisc.

This would probably be the best place to start as it should expose the Mini Disc as removable storage then its just a case of moving the music files from one drive (the removable one) to the HDD and then converting them from Mini Disc to MP3...

I've got a Sony NetMD MiniDisc Player

It has a usb cable amd some software called SonicStage. You then select which tracks you want to transfer to either the HD or MD.

The software is a pile of cak tbh but XP doesn't pick the MD player up as a removable HD so you can't do drag and drop via Explorer.

Apart from the software not being the greatest the whole system works well

I converted my Md's to MP3's a while back.

I plugged the MD audio out into the audio in on the computer and used
TotalRecorder to convert the input to mp3...(using the lame codec)

Might take a while using this method though..
