Complete amateur can't manage his own web site.
Ages ago I had a one page 'under construction' put on my website. I have been trying to up load the few pages I have now completed without much success. The pages I have uploaded are showing if you type /index.html at the end but if you type my domain name I still get the original page. How do I upload my (not very good but more information) pages over the top of this ruddy under construction page. I am using serif webplus 6 (steam powered I know).
This is really getting me down and soaking up too much time. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Andrew

I'm guessing there's another index.htm (or index.shtml or index.php etc) there that is taking preference over the one you've uploaded. Try deleting all other index.* on the root directory and then upload your new index.html

Just checked your website Andrew and there is an "index.htm" there which is taking preference over the index.html. You've got 2 options, rename your new file to index.htm or delete the index.htm from the server.

(please note the subtle difference between htm and html!)

I'll try that index.htm route. I would not know where to start deleting from the server!! Thanks very much for the suggestions.

Maybe best to create new pages with existing names and overwrite the old ones then? But when you upload do you not get a window showing the files on the server?

At last it is sorted (apart from the amateurish design and content) thanks to all your help. I had to dig out an ancient copy of an ftp browser called terrapin to help me clean up the mess at the server..........now off for some web design lessons
Thanks
Andrew
PS spot the difference between the site I designed and the site I had done professionally!!

Edited my spelling
And again

Ah, Terrapin. I tried that once: IIRC it's only good for uploads up to 2Mb?
