Advice to fix incorrect email given when signing up to web
Discussion
On Monday I signed up to a webservice and bought some domain names. During the process I entered my email address incorrectly. I have a few, one is for friends and family, one is an old one and one is a hotmail used for sign ups and shopping. The sytax is similar:
firstnamesurname@domainA.com
firstnamesurname@domainB.com
yet my hotmail is :
firstname_surname@hotmail.com.
I stupidly transposed the email addresses (was in a rush) and gave them:
firstnamesurname@hotmail.com
Twice. Yes I know, I am stupid but.....
The owner of this other email address is telling them it is not her (and copying me in) and I am telling them it is me and the email address was in error. They will not change it as it is DPA but they have told the other lady all my details INCLDUDING MY BANK STUFF to her saying is this you?
I am very lucky she has contacted me and said she has deleted all details. I know I would do that in similar situations and just hope she is as honest as she says she is
They have now asked me for these details in a form to confirm it is me along with a signature and a copy of ID. Which is pointless as the sign up was online and they don't have my signature and the other lady would have the same id as me as we have the same name.
Am going around in circles. Have asked to be referred to a human being who can see it all and fix this. It was meant to be a project for my son over half term which is nearly over. Any ideas?
(and please don't post telling I am stupid and should be more careful, have had a stressful week with this and other stuff and really don't need reminding)

Tell them you want to cancel the account and go somewhere else because they're pissing about and that you want a full refund. Also inform them that sending out your details, including bank details to a party asking if that was you completely violates data protection and makes them liable for anything that happens since that is absolutely confidential information that shouldn't be repeated and often shouldn't even be stored after processing.

I don't think it's neccesacrily as simple as that because the OP says she bought some DOMAIN NAMES. For example she could have registered 'qfqpogogp.com' and that will be registered to the details she gave when she signed up. So you can't just 'close the account' because each domain name is unique and she needs to keep ownership of them.If I were the OP then I'd just go along with whatever the company said they needed, even if it sounded pointless, to get the situation resolved. It was a silly mistake but I think the OP accepts it was their mistake and they will therefore have to jump through the relevant hoops to sort it.
Best of luck Kate.
