Mobile phones - Orange - Porting numbers

Guys, whats the chance of getting a mobile phone number ported whilst still in contract?

We've recently moved, and the signal here is crap on Orange, so I'm looking to move networks asap. My plan is to reduce tariff on the orange contract and keep paying it until it expires (can't afford to pay it off in one go right now), but need to port my number to another network asap as I'm missing work calls.

Any thoughts?

You cannot port your number without getting a PAC and you cannot get a PAC without paying up your account to the end of the contract, I'm afraid.

Can't be done, I tried recently. Using the PAC to port the number terminates the account, and triggers any early exit fees. bds.

a temporary solution could be to set ur old phone to divert calls to your new number, and leave the old phone at a friends house that has good signal?

Wonder if I'd get away with paying the 'exit fees' over 2-3 months after the numbers ported...

Have you signed up with Orange to allow you to also use the T-Mobile signal? I have very poor Orange signal where I live but now get 5 bars of T-Mobile on my Orange iphone.

yep, t-mob isn't much good either. I get great signal on three though, strangely...

Annoyingly it isn't possible to divert text messages, otherwise that would have been my solution.

Worth calling them and explaining that you have moved house and now have no service.

I tried this, they pointed out that contractually they do not guarantee a signal anywhere.
