Where have all the websites gone?
Discussion
I know this is similar to a thread that was running a few days ago, but this is slightly different.
Dial up to the internet and connect to the ISP, but from there on nothing comes down the line. What ever website you type in, the browser does a quick run through all the possible extensions (.com, .net, .org etc) and then says site not found. It happens too quickly to be actually looking on the net (and besides the computer screens at the bottom right don't flash. It's as though it's looking internally.
From a command prompt, I can happily ping anywhere on the internet, whether I enter an IP address or a domain name, so I assume DNS is not an issue.
Have checked the hosts file and it has not been got at and there are no spyware or viruses on the computer.
Running Win XP Pro SP1, IE6 and all the latest patches are applied. It worked perfectly well until last week.
Anyone got any ideas?
