Hi group,
every so often when trying to connect to the internet I find the ADSL light flashing on the speedtouch modem and cannot connect. If I ring the service status line to check on network problems as soon as there is an answer the ADSL light goes steady and I can connect. Any ideas what is going on?

Had similar problem with an Alcatel modem. Was advised to shut PC down, remove the modem's USB connection and leave it for a while then reboot the PC and reconnect the USB when the desktop was fully loaded. Seemed to fix it. Someone who knows anything about modems will probably tell us about its buffer being full or some other technobabble

thanks for that, tried it twice, did not seem to make any difference, dialed that number again and connected so I could make this reply. Good point about the drivers will try that next.

Is it just the service status line that fixes it or is it any telephone call? Sounds like you might have a filter problem. Swap it for a spare and see if that cures it. Make sure you have filters on all sockets that have telephone equipment in and that includes the DSL modem socket.
