Cls wiper mechanism

Trying to find out how to fix my sons 02 c class coupe 230k. The wiper on the passenger side seems to be 'slipping' on the gear unit. When you move the wiper by hand there is no resistance stall. Is the gear unit at fault and is it easily replaceable. Thanks
