Having just bought an SLK 03 (one owner full history) for the mrs,i have had to sort a few known problems out over the first few weeks.I was chatting to a chap about this (an accountant) who said Mercs built between O3-06 suffered poor build quality due to accountants making cuts....any truth in this?

Sort of, although I think the period started earlier than 2003 ...

Corrosion is a favourite! That said, my 03 CL has been a solid car, except for the corrosion which MB fixed under warranty. As for my late 07 GL, that has been a fine and reliable car with the build quality being excellent.

They were rapidly climbing back out of quality problems by 2003. The worst years are often quoted at 99-ish to 2002-ish.

Late 90's were pretty poor, a friend of mine had a w210 e55 and it was rusting like fk after 5 years.
