[cross posted from the barge topic in general gassing] Is this the one with the unreliable ignition parts and rust/electrical problems? Apart from the fact that it's ex-dem it seems tempting...

Mikey recommends the £1500 Mercedes warranty.

If anything goes tits up on one of these it's ten bags.

Cheap to acquire, moider to maintain.

Apparently these have an interesting design flaw regarding an oil cooler, that when it goes (and it will!)
To replace it requires the removal of the engine and THEN the Cylinder heads removing!! eekeekeek
The subsequent bill is in the region of £5k!

It is the normally aspirated V12 that has the problematic oil cooler seals. The oil cooler is located in the Vee under the intake manifold and fixing a leak does indeed require removal of the heads. The biturbo is supposed to be more reliable and does not have this design issue.

You'll still want your brave pills, dodgy oil cooler or not.

Give them a bell with the reg no of the car and they will advise cost of warranty, I have found them very helpful on the phone.

Well, Marty, given the nature of what you've just taken on, perhaps they should rename it The Big Leggy Gait Prevention Policy?

I have one those! Its actually faster than the sl55 and has four proper seats! What more could you ask for? I think the early non turbo cars gave all the 600's a bad reputation.

Fabulous car to own, but make sure you take out a good warranty. Things like abc suspension can cause problems which can be costly to repair. Everything on the car is ECU controlled & the slightest problem can add up to a costly repair. This car would have been over £110k when new plus options fitted so its a real bargain now but like a recent colleague i work with decided the cl500 was a cheaper car to buy used & there wasn't much difference in perfomance.
