Evening all. I have bought another slk 55 amg. this one however is not so good on the MPG. it seems to do always be below 19mpg in town where as my last one was more likely 22 mpg. i have noticed that the car feels like it is being hinderred by the gearbox at very low pulling away speed.... perhaps this is too blame. any thoughts as to the cause or if the mpg could be improved?

thanks all

I think you were lucky with the last one to be honest. I don't think I have even done over 19mpg in town in mine (unless its a town with no traffic).
I get about 17-18mpg in town, 20-23mpg on shorter run out of town and 26mpg on a longer run on the open road.

Tyres do make a difference so are they the same make plus Ethanol in fuel reduces mpg so did you have your first one before its introduction.

Interestingly, I assume you're all using the OBC's MPG readout?

And when you say "around town", how much was stop-start traffic? The test drive I had of an '05 SLK55 got me 20.5 MPG around town, even giving it some beans to see what it was capable of. I've seen other posts that confirm that others have been able to stay above 20mpg for extra-urban.

However, there are ALOT of factors involved, so its really hard to compare.
