Tyre Wear

Been running my E350 CDI Estate for 11 months now, done just shy of 19k, i havent got the lightest right foot but i am absolutely gob smacked by the tyre wear.
The fronts are not even half worn and the backs will just see me through August upto 20k just.

Just gone 25k, fronts are about halfway through, rears need replacing..just!

Looks like the fronts will do 40k+ at this rate, can't complain at that.

Off to search for the cheapest pair of Conti 3s I can find and hope they fair as well as the original fit tyres.

What tyres are you running on?

I had Michelin PS2s all round and was really disappointed at the poor life, and completely baffled that the fronts wore out slightly before the rears, a first for me in a RWD car!

I've currently got Uniroyal Rainsport 2s on the front and Falken ZE912 on the rear, both about half worn at 12k miles with no less performance than the so called premium Michelins IMO - I'd recommend both.

Are the rear tyres worn unevenly ?

Answer will probably be to rotate every 3 months or so so as to equalize wear .

The tyres have worn perfectly evenly.
They are Pirelli P zeros.
I will get another pair the same for the back at the end of August, to see if the OE tyres are a different compound - ie longer lasting to entice you to buy the same.
i still think 20k miles out of a set of rears on a powerfull car that is driven pretty hard is fantastic.
i had an E55 estate a while back and we were lucky to see 8K out of the rears!!

I've never understood rotating tyres, surely that just means they all need replaced at once meaning a larger one-off bill rather than splitting the cost in two by replacing front and rears at different times?!
