Hello,

I am toying with buying an R129 SL, the I6 version. The reason being it will provide a reference for the ECU etc that is going into my project R107 SL.

My questions are:

i) What years have which security system (I need this to be the 1 button on the key fob type as on my donor car)
ii) Ditto ESP system.

Is it possible to get i) and ii) the same as a 1997 C36 AMG ?

Rather an obscure question I know but someone must know.

Cheers

Perhaps it was too obscure.

How about anyone with an R129 tell me how many buttons the remote on the key has and the year of the car?

Cheers

Three buttons, 1999, 500.

ESP became available on the 600 in about 1995; it made to the rest of the range in 1998.

Two buttons on the remote from about 1997.

Three from 1998.

But this is all approximate. Does the EPC link any changes (I am thinking of the door handles) to chassis numbers?

Good suggestion, if only I could find my EPC disk. Wonder if it would work on my Vista lap top (XP laptop with EPC / WIS died recently)

I've been sitting here with EPC open on my desktop all day.

On sheet 72/030/2 (front doors, closing system), looking at the "outfit", number 185 on the diagram, for vehicles with code 880 (infra-red closing system), the following chassis numbers seem to be significant points at which new systems were introduced:

As of F091720
As of F113843
As of F125158
As of F140422
As of F155735

I would have thought that you are looking for cars before F091720.

Brilliant thank you.

Although my W140 has a 3-button fob but is till infra-red. I need to get EPC going again as it is a very useful tool.

My R129 is a 1999 with a three button fob and it, too, is infra red. I believe it is both infra red and RF. Whatever, it only works at pretty close range.

Yes I think they are IR and RF now you mention it, the earlier ones being IR only.
