Hello Mercedes types. Any ML beards knocking about?

First question, do we have any friendly dealers knocking about the Board?
More importantly what do we know about the ML, 2008 ish, 320 or the 430. Is the 430 worth paying a cpl of grand extra for for the big V8 diesel? How much more does it guzzle black stuff?
Had a drive in a 280 and was very impressed, we have been offered 320s and a 430. Its a decent motor is the ML, vastly superior to the offerings from Landy and VW.

The 3.0L diesel engine certainly hides the fact that its a 2 ton monster. However real world fuel consumption with less than average motorway cruising was 22 to 24mpg (12.8 to 11.8 litre/100km).
Unfortunately I have never driven the 430CDI but the 320CDI never lacked for power IMHO.
My understanding is that the 320CDI is the one to go for.
The 280 could be under powered in certain situations and the 430 more thirsty for not much more power.
The 320 CDI is the right balance.
Saying that, if you are planning on towing caravans and such like, I would consider the 430

My dad went from a 320cdi to a 420cdi and there is a big difference in performance. The 320 was more than adequate, but every time I drove the 420 I had a huge grin on my face, as something so big just shouldn't be that quick! It came with the air suspension option, and although it did a good job of controlling body roll, it failed twice in 3 years. Thankfully the warranty covered the repair work but if I was looking for one myself I'd be trying to get one with standard coils and springs. MPG wise I think it averaged 22-23, with 30 do-able on a run, however neither of my folks have what you would call an economical driving style. The 320 averaged 28-29 IIRC.
It was recently traded for a new 350cdi so it'll be interesting to see if my folks miss the performance.
