R129 ADS fault

Hi,
I have a 1999 R129 SL500 that has the ADS fancy suspension option.
Earlier this afternoon, just at the finish of a 150 mile motorway run, the ADS malfunction light came on, and the ride ceased to be the usual ADS loveliness.
When stationary, the car has settled into the lowest ( 75mph+ ) ride height instead of sitting at the normal stationary low position.
After switching off and starting up again, the ADS fault light has not come back on (after the point when all of the lights come on and then go out). However, if I press the switch to raise the ride height, the front of the car lifts up as usual, but the back-end seems completely paralysed.
I have the car booked into a nearby specialist in a week's time (the soonest they can do), and who have previously done good work on the car (including replacing the two rear air cell accumulators about 15 months ago). But, meanwhile, are any of the experts here able to suggest what might have gone wrong?
