At my annual service i was told that my front discs were down to near 3mm. They will need new ones before the next service, about 6000 miles ar at a cost, including fitting of about £1000 per side. The car has done 45,000 miles and i dont flog it so I was surprised at the need for new discs and then the £2000 estimate! Is this right?

they are about £1500 for c63 disc so that would seem about right.

I had the front discs + pads changed on my SL65 in June, like you I was feeling quite ill when I received the news.

Don't have the invoice to hand though think the discs were about £650 + VAT ish each after discount, with fitting on top. If your motor is a few years old is worth pushing the dealer for a hefty parts discount, or bidding them on an all in price to do the work.

Would be worth talking to these chaps for realistic parts prices to check your main dealer is treating you right:

http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk/

The site is the internet parts outlet of MB Oxford.

Depending how much you trust your dealer would be worth you checking the discs do actually need changing, MB will state a min disc thickness and you could check this with a vernier caliper to see how close to the limit you are?

Hope you get sorted with the minimum pain.
