w210 alloys - will fit a W124?

Hi all

After months of looking I finally acquired a 1995 W124 200TE, 3 weeks ago. Now, somehow, I've also ended up, as of yesterday, with 1989 300TE!

I've seen an ad locally for what look like a set of 8 hole alloys for a W124 (the picture's cr@p so I can't be sure) but the ad describes them as being for a "1994 210 chassis".

The W210 saloon came out in late 1994 didn't it?

So, if they are for a W210, will they fit straight on to my 300TE with no problems?

If it's a 1994 car , it's not a W210 . If the wheels are from a W210 car , they'll still fit your car .
I had a 1994 E280 (W124 saloon) with W210 elegance alloys fitted . I'm usually a stickler for originality , but the tyres were new and they looked quite good !

The picture sure looks like 8 holes though, although it is a very poor picture. Maybe it's a W124 after all?

124 TE wheels even standard were upgraded to take extra weight they used to have a sticker indicating so on wheels inc spare. so take great care, dont use cheap wheels

Check the offset and width. Standard W124 wheels are 39-41 mm offset and 6.5" wide

W124 Estate steels are special heavy-duty items with a silver "T-Wheel" sticker. Apart from those all the other W124 wheels are interchangeable

Thanks everyone - but I'm getting confused now with offsets.

Looking on the net I see some sites saying offsets for 6.5X15 wheel should be in the range 41-49mm and another site saying 35-42mm and yet another saying 35-38mm.

Also - If the chap selling the alloys doesn't know what the offset is then how would I measure it?

As you can see this is not something I know much about.

ETA - just looked up how to measure offset, backspace etc on-line and it's clearly not something I'd be able to do accurately in 5 mins while looking at a set of wheels in in some bloke's garage - especially with tyres on!

The offset is stamped on the back of the wheel, if I remember just inside one of the hole cut-outs, so you can check easily. It'll say something like 'ET44' If they've come off another standard 124 they should be ok. There's sportline alloys too which are 7" wide, they're for wider tyres obviously...

Checked my manual- you want ET44 for 6.5" Standard 8-hole alloys, and ET41 if they're sportline 7's...

Would there be any difference in terms of the correct offset for an earlier W124 as opposed to a later one? My 300TE is a 1989 car.

^^^see my edit of previous post on offsets. As far as I know later wheels should be ok on earlier cars, mine is a '94 so I only have data for later cars, but I'm pretty sure they'll be ok. I've seen quite a few early model cars with 8-holes on and later models with the earlier style 15-hole alloys too.

You also need different wheel bolts with alloys -they're longer than the steel wheels so hopefully the seller will have them with the wheels or you'll need to get a set.

Well, it turns out they were off a w124 estate after all, even though the seller calls it a W210.

So, just have to get them refurbished and fit 4 new Continentals they'll be lovely.

The I'll have a set of steels ready for winter tyres next year.

I had 17in or 18in W210 E55 monoblock alloys on my S124 300Te 24v, no problems higher top speed 150 almost once!

Thanks chaps - but I got another 6 1/2" off Ebay, so now have a set of 4.

I've rubbed them down and primed, painted & lacquered them, so just a final polish and plenty of wax and they'll be ready for tyres.

Now have a spare 7x15 Sportline.
