CL55 AMG V8 Kompressor - 2003
Discussion
I'm thinking of buying one of these beasts - very much like the whole package.
Rather than believe the "you get 27mpg if you drive sensibly" stories on the adverts for sale, I'd like to know from real owners, what 'real world' mpg is.
My gut feel is that a 5.4 litre supercharged V8 Auto would be lucky to deliver high teens.
My driving is mixed in the sense that my commute is 50mph + mainly A and B roads and my weekends are more 'enthusiastic' blasts to/from friends and family if that helps.
Cheers!

Genuinely I don't track it too much, but would say it's better than my X5. It's like comparing a Clipper to Normandie.
You should clear early to mid 20's up the motorway for sure.
If this helps: I can pop in £100 in BP on the North Circular and day round trip to Wilmslow without the orange light coming on. Not quite Alex Roy pace, but spurring on more than Jessica Tandy's flunkey.

I have a CLS 55 .. same engine as the CL55
one a high speed run to Germany, I managed about 25mpg, including lots of runs to 140mph on the unrestricted autobahns.
on shorter journeys, say from London to Suffolk, I get around 23mpg.
In London traffic, around 13mpg. Heavy traffic can see it drop below 10mpg.
BUT well well worth it!

if I go into it, i'll be expecting high teens. That gives me to context I need to know when I drive one whether or not its enough "WOW" factor. But I wont be believing the sellers claimed "27mpg achievable" thats like saying an E39 M5 can achieve 30 mpg. I'm sure you can get the computer to read 30 mpg cruising in tp at 60 mph with a feather touch, but who wants to drive a performance car like that!!
cheers!
cheers!
Look at it this way, my last car, a 2005 diesel pick-up would do 400 miles between £100(ish) fill ups.
My SL500 does 400 miles between £100(ish) fill ups.
Okay, I can't get a tonne of sand, lengths of 1800x900 plasterboard, ply etc in the SL, but I didn't do that very often in the pick up.
Both were my only car, I know which one I prefer. Fuel economy is only part of the equation, but if you a worrying about I now, don't do it - there are plenty of Aygo's for sale!

good lord.
I'm amazed at that!
I was steering way clear of the V12 Turbo thinking it would be horrendous!
I see you can get it remapped to 595bhp - hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!
I have 2 Biturbo V12s 600+ and 700+bhp [DMS and Kleemann]. 16-18 round town and 21-26mpg on the I'm amazed at that!

Does the rest of the car hold up well with 700bhp? I'm thinking brakes and box rather than suspension.
What do Kleeman do that DMS dont?
