R129 Door Speaker Covers

Afternoon all.

Just after a quick bit of advice really, due to a leaky door seal, I now have a manky stained door speaker cover on the drivers side door.

I understand these are no longer available new so I want to remove it (and the passenger side as that has some shoe scuff marks on it) and try and give them both a thorough cleaning.

Are they just clip on items that can be prized off with a flat blade? Also, does anybody have any tips for cleaning the material? Soap and water and a bit of 'Vanish'?

If they are plastic, the best thing for removing shoe scuff marks is AutoGlym Tar Remover.

Cheers for the advice, unfortunately they are cloth covered, hence the need to be gentle with them!

Cheers Ian, I shall ask the question over there and see what they have to say.

The car is going in on Monday for a top end rebuild a a full set of door and roof seals. If they have to take the covers off to do the work, I shall get them to leave them off so I can get them all cleaned up like new. The drivers side one especially looks a bit grim.

Sorry , can't help with the speakers Bob ; my 129 is a very early car with two round (one big , one small) per door . Good luck with your rebuikd though ! Can't imagine that being cheap ! M

Top end rebuild....? Ouch! Elective?

I had a tiny tick in mine, you really had to concentrate to feel/hear it, it was a coil pack. Cheaper than a rebuild!!

In order to clean the cloth speaker covers, I spray them thoroughly with Auto Glym Interior Cleaner, directing the spray at an angle so as to mitigate he risk of damaging the speakers. I then rub them briskly with a microfibre cloth. This brings them up well. The lower cover is easily removable: from memory, there is a screw at the bottom then it pushes off in a forward direction.

The tick surely is likely to be an hydraulic tappet?
