I'm after a late-as-possible 560 SEC but they're a bit thin on the ground at present. Well, I say thin but it's hard to be sure because I don't quite know where's best to look.

For classic BMW's and Audi's there's 4 Star Classics. The best one i've come across so far for Mercedes is Charles Ironside. Does anyone have a list or suggestions of simular dealers (preferably in the south)?

I've just bought a W124 320CE after looking for a while. I tried the usual suspects (PH's, Autotrader et al) then stumbled across a site called Mercseller.com. Richard, who runs the site, acts as a go between for private sellers but does test each car and provides multiple photos and a fair description.

You have to go through him to view the car and he charges a finders fee but I found him very helpful and the prices on the site are fair. Well worth a try and I think he's got a few cars that may fit the bill on the site at the moment.

Autobarn
Avantgarde Cars
C & V Cars
Charles Ironside
Cheshire Classic Benz
Crawley Mercedes (dormant)
Mercseller
MTSV
Prestige Motor Company
Silver Arrows

You may wish to keep an eye on Car and Classic and Pistonheads Classifieds as well as these cars do crop up at non-specialist classic car dealers or indeed as private sales. If you do your homework and are prepared to trek around the country, you will pick up a very good car at an auction or a private sale but you will also see a lot of rubbish.

560 SECs, indeed any decent SECs, are getting thin on the ground. There are no good ones in the market right now of which I am aware.

Ah, that's exactly what i'm after. Thanks chaps.

Yep, nothing on PH or C&C at the moment. The only nice one kicking around at the moment is this black example with a patchy history.

No rush, though. I shall make some contacts and be ready to move on anything interesting that comes up. Annoyingly I missed a good one late last year because I had nowhere to put it!

Have we passed comment on this already? I'm sure I have, somewhere. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the absence of history pre-1998: whether it missed a service in 1992 is neither here nor there, what counts is how it has been maintained over the last five years.

yup I made that mistake the other way on a 107 500SL. 1 owner and FMBSH until 5 years before I bought it, patchy inbetween, I sank A LOT into it.

Absolutely, and the ad says the body is essentially rust free, the big problem in these cars. Looks good to me and I'm guessing that there will be a bit of room for negotiations too.
