2010 E220cdi Blue Eff. Sport - Any owners on here?

I'm going to look at an estate version of the above this weekend and I wondered if anyone on here has owned or driven one. It has the 5 speed auto box, not the 7G one, but the rest of the spec looks ok. I guess I have the usual questions.....how firm is the sports suspension? and does it handle reasonably well? Is the performance adequate enough for such a big car (I currently run a Saab 9-5 3.0 diesel with 180bhp which is relatively quick), what's the interior quality and overall build quality like on Mercs these days? My last experience of an E-Class was my Dads 2000 model E280 Elegance and that wasn't all that great. It had paint quality issues, the power steering failed twice and the interior wasn't up to the standards I'd expected from Mercedes. Since 2002 he has had 4 ML’s and I have seen an improvement with each model, so I’d like to think that the E-Class has similarly evolved.

I run a 60 plate E250 with the 5 speed thoroughly enjoy it although have small regrets about not btaking the E350 now and then.

Thanks for the reply Laner. The 350 would be ideal but they aren't within my budget at the moment, however I don't think it matters anymore as my wife was in an S-Max yesterday and she's now keen to get something like that as a family car instead of another estate.

I have a 60 plate 220Cdi Avantgarde and it is a big improvement over the W211.

Build quality is good, the interior generally is good. They have made a few cost cutting savings, the most annoying being the second sun visor. Some of the interior plastics are not quite as good but overall its a nice place to be.

I have the 5 speed auto and that is very robust and very smooth. Performance wise it is ok, but if you want real performance you need the 350. It is however very economical, and I regularly get over 50mpg, most of my driving is motorways, but even in London it never drops below mid 40's.

The ride is good, and although the Sport ia a bit firmer I think you will find it ok.

They handle big mileages very well and are very reliable in my experience, as long as you adhere to the servicing schedules.

Although I might be forced to re-assess my thoughts on these small MPV's. We test drove an S-Max today, one with the 2.0t 240bhp engine, and I must admit I was pretty impressed with it as a potential family wagon, and as something that might just manage to put a smile on my face..... I'm still going to look at the E-Class though.
