230E on an M plate?

M***GGN on a black 230E saloon could it be a personal import or did some linger like the E220 in CKD form,AskMid shows as not insured incidently.I was sitting behind the vehicle so I noted the reg,plate had no small print either,GN is Maidstone I believe.

Indian built w124s went up to 1998 on a 'R'. Usually E250 diesels. Usually dark blue over grey tex.

I've seen several E220's on plates as late as S, but it's unusual to see a prefacelift car badged as a 230E on anything later than K and that was the year(92) when the new multi valve engines were phased in.Also it's fairly easy to get a correct age related plate if you can get the build details from the factory.
