I know this is a subject that has been aired many times but I have thought it might be a good idea if a few contributors posted their best fuel consumption figures for all to see and comment.

I have just completed my first long journey in my C250cdi Blue Efficiency Auto saloon at six months old.
Using the A120, M11, A14, A1 from near Stansted in Essex to Scotch Corner, some 200+ miles the on-board computer indicated 68.3mpg. When the tank was topped up to the brim again this worked out to a true 65.5mpg. Average speed worked out to 65mph having used the cruise control where possible at 72mph. As you may gather I am quite pleased with the mpg of my 204bhp sports saloon.

Over 186,000miles my 1999 SL500 has returned 23mpg.

Over 51,000miles my 1986 500 SEC has returned 20mpg.

Over 61,000miles my 1993 320 TE returned 24mpg.

Each is an enthralling motor vehicle in it's own way. I am looking forward to discovering what my new banger, a 1993 E300 D T, will give me: hopefully 33 to 35mpg.

I have two Golf TDIs, a Mk3 and a Mk5, but I don't use either enough to obtain any meaningful figures. The Mk5's OBC says 49.9mpg over just less than 4,000miles. They're so boring and unrefined, albeit the Mk3 has some charm (see below).

I'm not sure 200miles is either a long journey or a worthwhile test, but your vehicle's low fuel consumption certainly is impressive: all the way to Scotch Corner on about three gallons! I suspect it is fairly pointless working it out to five decimal places. I tend to use one decimal place, not least so I can do it in my head.

SLK32 AMG average for 1500 miles touring Germany - 26 mpg.

Was thinking of binning the C32 (average 22mpg over the last 30,000 miles) for something a little less thirsty, then realised that the 7 or 8 grand I was going to put towards a newer replacement would buy around 5.500 litres of fuel.
Mind made up - keeping it!

I guess my driving is probably classed as mainly urban, trips of 10-15 miles with a mix of motorway and town driving within that:

2008 E220 cdi estate 5spd auto - 33mpg over 40k miles (40mpg max on a long run)
2011 C220 cdi saloon BlueEff 7G auto - 40mpg over 7k miles (50mpg max on a long run)
2011 E200 CGI estate BlueEff 7G auto - 31mpg over 5k miles

Anything over 30mpg I can live with!

'06 SL500, overall average 25mpg after 4,000 miles of varied driving, can (just) manage 31mpg on motorways sticking to 65-70mph, purely around town - 8-12mpg!

Did you get that sort of mpg from new or did it take some time for the engine to 'loosen off'? I ask as you can see from above I got 40mpg on average in mine & couldn't better 50mpg even on a run, however it had done only 12k miles when I got rid of it so still fairly new.

GL420/X164 - best I have had is ~28.5MPG with a usual of 23MPG.

Can even get it into the teens if I see a RRS.

Just had a June 2010 C250CDI through our workshop today and the average fuel consumption over the last 86k miles was 59.2mpg. I thought that was pretty impressive...

That's a lot of miles for a 2 year old car! But yes very commendable MPG wonder if it was driven particularly economically

The mileage this morning was a smidge over 97k! I looked on his OBC, out of curiosity and his MPG had been reset 86k miles ago...

I would hazard a guess that to accumulate almost 100,000 miles in two years one has to spend a lot of time on the motorway roughly within the speed limit. We petrolheads may scoff but I am quite impressed by these figures.

The figures may be impressive but I bet those 90k miles at 59mpg weren't 90k of enjoyable fun miles!

No doubt your right YB.. But for a work hack it can't be disputed.. Nigh on 60mpg running up and down the country during the week is spot on..

Very true - my comment was less to do with the car and more to do with spending that amount of time sat on motorways, no fun at all!

I'm quite surprised by the high mpg reported by most, I can never get my Mercs anywhere near book mpg figures, even on long runs using a light foot, being anal about correct tyre pressures and using 'branded' non-supermarket fuel.
