Vito remapping help needed - no reply to last post!

I have a Vito 2.2 150BHP Dualiner which I want to get remapped. I have heard conflicting views on 'bolt in' units, The biggest problem with tuning units that are added on I've been told is that they only alter the fuel and can tend to make your car smoke on acceleration. A friend's Landrover garage has stopped using them and use a remap now as this gives better torque and well as acceleration.

Any advice gratefully appreciated.

I used a tuning box on my old c220 cdi for about 2 yrs,had no problems,the mpg went from mid 40's on a run to an indicated mid 50's.added around 20hp,but it was the midrange torque that really made a difference.didn't notice any extra smoking but it did have a dpf fitted,didn't seem to affect the regeneration cycle either.
