2003 S350 and I am getting to grips with all the buttons etc; One thing is puzzling me, The air con switch (below the drivers side pop-in pop-out control button and to the left) has constantly tells me that the air con is not engaged, is this a dreaded air con fault or am I doing something wrong ?

Thankyou for the response, I know that it is the off switch for the aircon, but if I press it the red light on it does not go out, the red light is always on, which indicates that the air-con may not be working. It certainly does not feel icy cold.

If it's not working it could well indicate a fault. Best bet is to start with a re-gas (not expensive thankfully!) and take it from there.

Sorry, I should've quantified the above - if the AC gas pressure drops there is a safety feature that stops the A/C compressor engaging to protect it (spinning in low pressure gas can burn it out). Hence if your system needs re-gassing then you will not be able to engage the compressor (turn the AC on) and you will see the fault you describe.

It could of course be something more serious (let's hope not!) but a re-gas is the cheapest/easiest place to start. Hope that helps.

Sorry about that Zippy. It could be a multitude of things from here on in. I'm afraid I don't know of any resets etc.

It might be time to find a friendly Indy and get them to take a look...

Popped the car down to my newly acquainted MB independant and there is a computer reset using STAR that did the job, I now have working aircon. MBTech in warrington seem to know their stuff and were very friendly.
