SLK 55 (New Shape)

Hello chaps. Had a test drive in one of these yesterday and absolutely utterly fell in love with the thing.

The thing that makes it an actual realistic proposition for me is the cylinder deactivation thing - I'm wondering if it's just a gimmick or, if I'm cruising on the motorway I will indeed get acceptable MPG!

So, can anyone shed any light on this?

I've had one for about 2,000 miles.great car.

on a motorway run at about the limit 30mpg is possible.on b roads where mine does most of it's miles it drops to 21-23 but worth every penny.

Brilliant! I'm happy with relatively poor (although 21-23 for a 5.5ltr V8 is pretty respectable all things considered) b-road mpg but if the cylinder deactivation actually manages to have the car reach 30mpg on motorway cruises I think I shall have to get one!

Interesting. I get that with my SLK55 AMG and it is the old shape and I tend to drive it quite hard.

I get around 16-18 mpg round town in my SLK 55- And on longer motorway runs 24-26mpg ( although this is from the trip computer so not sure how accurate this really is)

slightly less than my SLK 32 Which is still doing around 20-22 mpg around town and 28 mpg on a longer run

On a bad day I usually average 24mpg and on a good run around 28-30mpg. Reason why I bought the slk55 over an aston martin. That - and the fact it is a hard top convertible. I didn't get the new one as I don't like the front shape, too boxy for my liking whereas I prefer the arrow shape - reminds me of Merc Silver Arrow.

Got 15.7mpg from mine so far. That said, I've only done 390 miles. Check out how long its taken me to drive that! eek.

I thought you're being sarcastic? If not, as SFO says, low speed driving is incredibly fuel inefficient.

In reality. For an AMG I actually find the mpg not bad considering. I must confess though I don't use it much for city driving, mainly motorways or long road. AMG cars are not really built for busy towns.

That's superb for such a high performance car!

Agee about the open road stuff helping. I get about 31-32mpg on open road, with a best of 35 over 100 miles of A road. Use it in town though, and it's barely above 20. That's on an SLK 280 Sport auto. Seems all the pulling away kills the mpg.
